WHAT TAPERANK SOLVES FOR DAY TRADERS

Every other screener ranks on the whole day. The day is not where you trade.

A stock that gapped 40% at 07:00 and died by 09:45 still sits at the top of a day-change screener at 14:00. It has been dead for four hours and it is still the first thing on the screen.

01

Every input looks back 15 minutes or less

Relative volume, dollar volume, velocity, range, float rotation: all measured over the last few minutes against what this name normally does at this time of day. A move from this morning is not an input.

02

Tickers decay off structurally

Heat is time since the ticker was last at its own peak. It falls on its own, so a stale mover dims, crosses the shadow line, and leaves. There is no rule anywhere that says "drop old names".

03

A committed verdict on every row

Does a filing explain the move? One of four answers, with a confidence. A model that hedges is not shown at all; the row says PENDING rather than something that sounds like an answer.

THE FOUR VERDICTS

Does the news explain the move? One of four answers, on every row.

Two sentences, one line of why, and a confidence from 1 to 5. Each verdict has its own glyph, fill and border, so you can read a column of them at a glance.

UNEXPLAINED4/5

Up 41% on 9.4× relative volume with no wire, no filing, and no exchange notice in the last 24 hours. The move is being driven entirely by order flow.

WHYNo matching news across the monitored sources; prints are concentrated in blocks above the ask, consistent with accumulation rather than a headline reaction.

JUSTIFIED5/5

Pre-market gain of 27% tracks a confirmed earnings beat released at 04:31. Move size is in line with the surprise and comparable prior reactions.

WHYHeadline is primary-source and quantified; the implied move sits within one standard deviation of this name’s historical reaction to similar beats.

STRETCHED3/5

Up 88% on a partnership announcement with no disclosed revenue terms. The reaction is roughly three times what comparable releases have produced.

WHYAnnouncement is non-binding and unquantified; float is thin enough that flow, not fundamentals, explains most of the extension.

DILUTION RISK5/5

Priced a $40M registered direct offering at $9.75 into this spike, a 17% discount to last. Shares outstanding rise about 34%.

WHYEffective shelf plus a fresh 424B5 filed during the move; the company has raised into three of its last four gaps.

SETUPS

The read on the chart, on every row.

Where a ticker is in its own day, named: nine setups, each with a direction, shown as chips in the list and spelled out in the detail pane with the level that triggered it. They describe; they never rank.

GAPGap and goGapped up at the open and holding above it.
ORBOpening range breakTrading above the high of the first five minutes.
HODHigh of day breakAt or within reach of a fresh high of the day.
VWRVWAP reclaimCrossed back above VWAP within the last few minutes.
VWPVWAP pullbackCame back to VWAP from above and held it.
VWHVWAP holdAbove VWAP and staying there.
FADFadingGiving back its move from the high.
EXTExtended from VWAPSeveral five-minute ranges above VWAP. A caution, not a signal.
RSMResumed from haltTrading again after a halt, within the last few minutes.

EVERY ROW OPENS

Click a ticker and the whole story is one pane.

The verdict with its confidence and reasoning. The filings it was read from, linked to the source. The setups in force, with the level behind each one. Execution, the session's levels, and a chart. All of it as of the same instant as the list.

  1. VERDICTThe verdict card names when it was made, so a pre-market read is never mistaken for a current one.
  2. HEADLINESThe filings the model read, with the source and the time they became public, linked to the document.
  3. SETUPSEach read with its trigger: the opening-range high, the VWAP, the gap, the fresh high of day.
  4. LEVELSThe session's own: VWAP, opening range, day and pre-market extremes, the gap.

WHAT YOU GET

One list. A few controls. Nothing that blinks.

Presets and filters

Low float gappers, large cap flow, halt watch, or your own thresholds. A filter is a view, never a gate: the ranking is the same for everyone, the filter decides which rows are ranked for you.

Pins

Pin a name and it is hoisted above the list, keeps its true rank, and never decays off. Pins live on the server, so a halt alert for a pinned name fires with every tab closed.

Three alerts, only three

A name enters the top 10. A pinned name is halted or resumes. A fresh verdict lands on a pinned name. As toasts in the app or as push notifications. No digests, no marketing.

Setups and execution

Nine reads on the chart, each with a direction: gap and go, opening-range break, VWAP reclaim, hold and pullback, high-of-day break, extended, fading, resumed from a halt. Beside them, whether you could get a fill: OK, thin, or costly.

Halts

A halted name holds its rank and stops decaying, shows the halt code and the exchange’s published resumption time, and its verdict card stays exactly where it was.

Filings, read rather than listed

Every verdict is grounded in SEC filings from the last 24 hours, with the document itself fetched and read for the forms that matter. Financing signals are pulled from the filing structure, so a dilution flag means something was filed.

QUESTIONS

Straight answers.

Is the data real-time?

On Pro, yes. The free plan is served 15 minutes behind the tape: the same ranking, the same instant, 15 minutes later. The header of the app shows the delay you are looking at, always.

Is this investment advice?

No. TapeRank is a screening tool: it ranks what is trading and tells you whether public filings explain the move. It does not recommend buying or selling anything, it routes no orders, and the AI verdicts are model output that can be wrong. Read the disclaimer.

What does the AI actually look at?

SEC EDGAR filings within 24 hours of the move, with the document body fetched for the forms that matter, plus the price context. It does not see wire headlines that were never filed, which is exactly what the UNEXPLAINED verdict is for. A name with no filings at all is resolved by a rule, not a model, and the app says so.

Why does the list stay short sometimes?

Because padding it would be a lie. A preset is an assertion, so if six names clear it, six names are shown and the app tells you what to loosen. The list refills the moment something qualifies.

What happens when the trial ends?

The 7-day Pro trial collects a card at checkout and bills USD $49 when it ends unless you cancel first. Cancel any time from the customer portal; access runs to the end of the period you paid for. Details are on the pricing page and in the refund policy.
